"Following Pearl Harbor, commanders in the Pacific and Hawaii were accused of dereliction of duty and relieved of their commands. Hours after the attack, the Philippines commander suffered a similar defeat and was awarded the Medal of Honor. This book re-examines the circumstances surrounding Pearl Harbor to answer the questions: were these convenient scapegoats; and was the attack really the surprise the Roosevelt administration led Americans to believe?"-- - (Baker & Taylor)

Johns tells a different story from the official one about the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. The Roosevelt administration not only knew of the attacks, he says, but invited them and made it impossible for the Japanese not to attack as an excuse for the US to enter World War II. He also describes the efforts of two US generals who were sacrificed to the political ambitions of Douglas MacArthur. His topics include dereliction of duty, the world's stage, lend-lease and its delivery, final warning, air raid Pearl Harbor: this is not drill, and aftermath and investigations.
